Richard Nelson Obituary

Richard E. Nelson, age 98 died February 7,2025 at Bethal Home. He was born February 14, 1926, to Carl B and Anna (Anderson) Nelson in Ruthven, Iowa. He was baptized as a child of Christ in 1926 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven.
Richard graduated from Ruthven Public School in 1943 and also graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University in 1948. He became a registered Professional Engineer and was licensed in 17 states. He practiced his engineering profession from 1948 to 1998, last employed at SNC Manufacturing Company in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He served in the Army Air Corps in 1944-45.
He met Alanna Borkus Beane in Des Moines, Iowa and they married there in 1952. Alanna preceded him in death June 12,1986 at age 54. Alanna and he were blessed with three children: Bradford C. (Sara), Barry A. (Lynne), and Vanessa H. (James) Fixel. Children of Brad and Sara are Amanda (James), Siri (Tom), and Brett (Lindsie). Barry and Lynne's children are Julie (Brooks), Kevin (Beth) and Carl. Vanessa and James Fixel's children are Alanna (Anthony) and Jacklyn. He is further survived by 18 great-grandchildren.
Richard's siblings were Kenneth, Verda, Verla, and Verling.
Richard's life was richly blessed by God in his having a loving family and many friends (particularly in his elder years), Florence Dickey of Oshkosh.
