Paula Pullins Obituary

URBANA – Paula Ann Pullins, 91, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023 in her home.

Paula was born on Jan. 12, 1932, in Sidney, Ohio to the late J. Paul and J. Ruth (Licklider) Sprague.

She married her high school sweetheart, David Pullins, on Nov. 5, 1949.

David and Paula Ann founded Pullins Drainage in 1958 and built it from the ground up, with a dedication to soil and water conservation. Paula kept the accounts for the family farm and business, helped in the field, supported the guys behind the scenes, and always waited up. Her quiet work impacted many. She and David lived and taught the lesson that hard work pays off, proven through the continuation of their businesses and the endeavors of their offspring.

Paula Ann and David recently celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary. As the matriarch of 134 descendants (and growing), many others were welcomed into the family over the years. Her maternal nature showed in her care for babies and children. She lit up at the frequent visits by grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. The way she called "David" has been proven to be biologically transferable.

She embraced everyone and gave selflessly. No one left the house without the offer of a meal based on the results of Paula's canning and preserving. Her blue-ribbon pies were a staple of family gatherings, birthdays, and even weddings. Her ginger pickles were delicious; her egg noodles, macaroni 'n cheese, and baked steak unmatched. She set an example through her caring and loyalty for later generations to follow.

Her lasting legacy is one of how to love.

Loving thanks to her granddaughter assistants: Alaine Kirby, Amanda Pullins, Amelia Pullins, Ashley Pullins, Erin Overla, Hillary Pullins, and Martha Pullins for their generous and loving care.

Special thanks to Emily Betts, Caitlin Robison, Donna Akers, and Allison Jones for their compassionate, tender-hearted assistance.

To Keith Wicker and Bart Edgington, we give an abundance of thanks and appreciation for preparing and delivering delicious, nutritious meals for the past few years. We also extend our thanks and fond appreciation to Cindy Kniceley for her friendship and keeping us organized.

We also want to express our gratitude to Hailey Marquis, RN and the staff at Ohio's Hospice, Community Mercy Hospice.

We thank them all for their kindness and caring toward Paula Ann, David, and our entire family. Their understanding of our family's frequent comings and goings, for both visits and work, is greatly appreciated.

David, Paula and their wonderful family have been a part of my life since my childhood. Few have added such blessings to the world as have the Pullins Family.

I am so sorry to hear of Paula's passing. I will always remember her as a kind person. It is so unfortunate that families grow apart . I am a cousin of David's from the Pullins side. MY grandfather was Dale Pullins.
