Patricia Hyde Obituary

Patricia Hyde

Pat Hyde- mother, grandma, sister, neighbor, friend- passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025. Pat led a fulfilling and amazing life beginning her journey growing up in West Toledo. She attended St. Agnes grade school, then with a group of her grade school pals entered Central Catholic High School. Pat loved music and singing, and would often harmonize with her mother, Ruth, while they stood at the sink doing the dishes at her home on Berwick Ave in West Toledo. Pat joined the Central Catholic Glee Club her sophomore year and participated in such excellent Central Operettas as Guys and Dolls, Oklahoma, and The Music Man. After graduating from Central, Pat attended the St. Vincent School of Nursing, achieving her RN degree, and then with a couple of her fellow nursing graduates, moved to Palo Alto, CA, to begin a nursing stint at the Stanford University Hospital. A gentleman by the name of Wayne Hyde of Oak Harbor had caught her eye before she left, and Pat came back to Toledo to marry Wayne in 1971. However, they did not stay long in Toledo, for Wayne had caught the California bug as well, and they moved back out to San Jose and started a family. After a few years, the heartstrings of home began to tug, and Pat and Wayne returned to the Toledo area to put down permanent roots with their kids. Once back in Ohio, Pat returned to nursing becoming a Medical Oncology Nurse at Flower Hospital, and over the years she helped so many along the road of their cancer journeys. Pat loved to travel, hitting the road one summer with some nursing pals and renting a car to tour the byways and cities of Europe. There were trips to Florida and Saint V's Nursing School Reunions to beautiful locales throughout the East. Pat adored each of her seven grandchildren and spent much of her time traveling to visit and spend time together. Visits from Grandma were something that her grandchildren were always excited to have. In these past few years as she dealt with dementia, Pat was visited regularly by a host of family, old friends and neighbors, former nursing colleagues, and so many who loved her. The vibrant and lovely person that she was will be so missed by All.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; parents, Ruth and Charlie; brother, Richard. Pat is survived by her children, Brian Hyde (Dee), Julie Haas (Bryan), Amy Hoey; her seven grandchildren, Conner, Reid, Lillian, Sophia, Lincoln, Benjamin, and Evelyn; and brother, Alan. Pat's Celebration of her Life will be at Little Flower Church located at 5522 Dorr St., in Toledo, on Tuesday, February 25. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., and the service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to The Victory Center, Mobile Meals of Toledo, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Thos.I. Wisniewski Funeral Home, 419-531-4424.

I was blessed to have been able to share some time with Pat last summer. We scoured old yearbooks - remembering friends, musicals, sporting events, and so much more.
We also sang a lot of our mutually treasured hits including Patsy Cline favorites. Not only did Pat´s singing voice remain strong and beautiful, but she remembered every word of every song! I will miss those visits, but I´m sure that she is literally in heaven enjoying a reunion with so many loved ones.
May God bless and comfort all who loved her.

The things I remember the most are when we were all kids and my family came to Toledo for Thanksgiving weekend. The adults all went out and left us kids at home together. We had a good time protecting the house and ourselves. We also went to the place that had trampolines that was a lot of fun.

For all the years I shared having Pat as my sister-in-law, I still hear her voice and all the stories we shared. We had our 3 children each, and still kept our sanity and sense of humor.

Joe and I feel badly that we will be out of town for Pat´s funeral. Pat and I first met when Julie and my daughter, Colette, played soccer for Central Catholic. We continued our friendship playing in a bridge group. Pat was a wonderful giving person whose smile could light up a room. She will be missed by many, but can look down on us from a better place.
