Frank Tate Obituary

Tate, Frank A. Jr. Esq. C.P.A. J.P.
SLINGERLANDS - Frank A. Tate Jr., Esq., C.P.A., J.P., 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 23, 2023.
Frank was born in Mechanicville and was a graduate of LaSalle Institute, Fordham University and Albany Law School. Frank was an attorney, certified public accountant, judge in the Town of Colonie, real estate developer, and entrepreneur.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Joyce Tate; five children, Michael Tate (Mary Beth), Robyn Magee (Stephen), Lisa Field (Terry), Casey Huber (Joe), and Allyson Peek (Rick); and two stepchildren, Jennifer Whalen and Marshall Whalen (Morgan). He was affectionately known as "Grandpa Fox" by his 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He had a special bond with his nephews, Christopher and David Tate; and he considered Timothy Frederick to be like a son. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Phyllis Tate; his siblings, Patricia Tirkot, Erika Holzer and David Tate; and by the mother of his children, Marian T. Tate.
Frank had an undeniable zest for life. He was curious and his keen intellect drove him to many varied pursuits. Whatever he did, he was all in. He traveled the world with his wife and family. He was a philanthropist, instrument-rated private pilot, and tennis enthusiast who played tennis into his 80's. He always had a puzzle underway and had a world-class collection of TUCO puzzles. He loved playing cards, especially pinochle and was an avid chess player, pianist, gardener, cook, and horse breeder. He loved adventure and enjoyed numerous outdoor sports, including hunting, whitewater rafting, hiking, horseback riding, snowshoeing, and skiing. He was a sailing captain and enjoyed yearly trips to the Virgin Islands with friends and family. He taught meditation classes since the 1970s, analyzed handwriting for the joy of it, and held lavish summer parties, memorable for their themes.
He was the bailli of the Albany Chapter of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs and a member of The Société Mondiale du Vin. He was influential in local politics and served as a volunteer fireman. In the 1960s, he founded his firm Tate & Tate Attorneys at Law in Colonie, where he practiced law and was a C.P.A.
He loved spending time with his family. He was a true friend and mentor to so many and was never too busy to help someone in need. He was the best father and he will continue to be cherished, loved, remembered, and celebrated.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Heather Lawson, Frank's caregiver. She brought joy, laughter and security to Frank and his family in his final years.
Funeral services will be on Friday at 10 a.m. from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Waterford. Interment will follow at St. Peter & St. Paul Cemetery, Waterford. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 p.m.
Donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to The Joshua Project, P.O. Box 413, Middleburgh, NY, 12122 or by going to joshuaschoharie.org.

Sorry to hear about Frank´s passing. He chose me to be his Court Clerk when he was elected Town Justice in Colonie. We spent the next 10 years serving together in our roles. He was an excellent Judge, a wonderful friend and a great guy. I value to this day the memories of my association with Frank.
