Jane Fitzroy Obituary

Jane Edith Fitzroy passed away on October 17, 2023, in Palo Alto, California. She was 99 years old.

Jane lived a full life and accomplished much. She was born on November 13, 1923, in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Queens Village, then an early NYC suburb. Her family moved to Vermont when she was a teenager. In high school she won a full scholarship to Syracuse University, where she majored in journalism during World War II.

Jane worked as a copywriter for a high-end department store in Syracuse after college. One day a dashing Irishman visited to sell newspaper advertising. Jane married George Fitzroy in 1947, and they moved to Norristown, Pennsylvania, to begin their lives together.

Jane and George had four children, and Jane worked hard to raise them well. She was active in civic groups and school parents' clubs, organizing events and activities while managing the household. She always encouraged her children to develop their talents and pursue their ambitions. They all did just that.

After her youngest started school full time, Jane went to work at Sears Roebuck in the catalog sales department and was a star performer for 25 years. For many years more, Jane was an active member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Norristown, where she made many friends and actively volunteered to promote good works.

Jane was a dedicated caregiver for her father and her husband in their final years. When Jane herself began to need care, her children moved her to be near family in the Bay Area of California. Jane was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who achieved much in her long life. She will be missed by many generations.

Jane is survived by her four children: Stephen Fitzroy; Susan Lewis, Deborah Wiest, and Jennifer Parks. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Benjamin Lewis, Matthew Fitzroy, Samuel Fitzroy, Jacob Wiest, and Allison Murray. Her six great grandchildren are Nicholas Lewis, Ella Lewis, Michael Fitzroy, Matthew Fitzroy, Ronan Wiest, and William Fitzroy.

A service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (https://www.komen.org) and the Santa Cruz Valley Shelter Foundation (https://www.scanimalshelterfoundation.org/).

When Jennifer and I met in September of 1980, we became friends right away. I met her family, including Miss Jane and her dad and her grandfather! Miss Jane was known to my son as Mom Mom Jane. I saw her often over the years, even when Jennifer moved away. Jennifer even drove her mom down to DE to see my new house. We went to Longwood Gardens together. Lots of memories of this lovely lady. Our sympathy for the family.
