Ruth Jordan Obituary

JORDAN, Ruth, Ruth Jordan, 96, most recently of Harrisonburg, VA, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023. She was born in Richmond, VA, on January 24, 1927, to the late Lloyd A. and Beatrice Jordan. She is survived by her brother, Bill Jordan, and sister, Carolyn Green; nieces and nephews Page (Susan) Jordan, Kent (Drew) Child, Carter (Mary Lynn) Jordan, Robin Albus, Shelby (Curtis) Roberts, Peggy (Chuck) Carnes; and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Alex (Pat) Jordan; sister-in-law, Nancy Jordan; and nephew, Dr. Jimmy Jordan. Ruth graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1944, St. Claire's Medical Secretarial School in 1945, RPI (VCU) in 1960 for Occupational Therapy and classes at Perdue University. She served as: medical secretary for Drs. Carrington Williams, Sr., and Jr., Richmond VA; Director of O.T. at Gaylord Hospital, Wallingford, CT; and Asst. Director of O.T. at Chippenham Hospital, Richmond, VA. Ruth led professional workshops, contributed to various publications, and mentored numerous university students. Ruth was known affectionately as the "family Matriarch" for she was the hub that kept all the family spokes connected and informed. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Westhampton Memorial Gardens located at 10,000 Patterson Ave., burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Benevolent Fund at Centenary Methodist Church or your favorite charity. Thanks to Rev.
