Louise Kane Obituary

KANE, Louise "Weezie" Seyffer, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, October 2, 2023, in Naples, Florida. Born to Kenneth and Lolita Seyffer in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on July 13, 1948, Weezie embraced her life with boundless energy and unbridled optimism.

A graduate of the Emma Willard School and Briarcliff College, she also was selected to study in England as a part of the English Speaking Union student exchange program. She then pursued a career in cartography with the Central Intelligence Agency and later with the city of Hartford, Connecticut.

Weezie's devotion to her husband, Ed, and friends both new and old was unwavering. Together in retirement, they welcomed new friends and stayed in touch with so many others as they split their time between homes in Naples and Richmond, Virginia.

Weezie's culinary flair and love for entertaining created memorable dinner parties wherever they lived.

She is survived by her husband, Edward H. Kane, and her children, C. Jeffers Schmidt, III and Lolita "Lollie" Kingsbury Schmidt Lawson, and two granddaughters, Carter and Marian Schmidt, all of Richmond.

Weezie is also survived by three sisters, Laura Dorman of Glen Ellen, California, Katherine Opdycke of Richmond, and Virginia Lewis of Carson City, Nevada.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

My late husband and I met Weezie (and Jeff) in or around 1980's when they moved to NN and where he was Commonwealth's Attorney for MANY YEARS. We had many wilds parties. Many!! Life was one big party guys. We did a lot together - all members of RRYC. Ultimately the good times faded and Weezie moved away (and Jeff stayed behind). Weezie visited often over the years and we/ and she always stopped by to say
hi. I shall never forget Weezie - she was so very special and always managed to find the good in everything. She managed to pick up the pieces of her life and she marched on with Ed (whom I did not meet). Of all the lovely people who have been in my life I can say with complete honesty that Weezie was the most special in so many ways. She was indestructible. She swept all before her and marched on. So so special. Victoria Marek Young.

I am late with my memories of Weezie. I just found out that she had died. My apologies to Ed and her children. Weezie was the life and soul of EVERY party she held. Her parties were legendary. I can't tell you how many parties she held in Irvington (where she lived with her then husband Jeff Schmidt). I did not have the privilege of meeting Ed but if Weezie picked him he was special. She had some really tough times but she always worked her way through them and came out the better for it. I loved Weezie, she had a heart of gold. Our children went to school together (Chesapeake Academy) and we worked together to further the educational experiences for our children. She was a dedicated Mother, Wife and friend. She will always have a special place in my heart. Gods speed, my friend, till we meet again. Vikki Marek (Young)

I knew Weezie simply as a Richmond neighborhood friend. She was always happy to see people and share her thoughts.

I offer my condolences to Ed and her other family members.
