DANIEL ROSS HUDSON

March 16, 1966 to October 28, 2023

Daniel Ross Hudson, fondly known as "Papa Dan," passed away on October 28, 2023, at the age of 57. Born on March 16, 1966, Dan spent his childhood in Rough & Ready, California, after moving from Novato Ca. He went to Ready Springs School in Penn Valley for junior high and graduated from Nevada Union High School in Grass Valley in 1985, where he had been honored and recognized by renowned choral director Don Baggett, with a place on his wall of fame in the NU theater.

Dan furthered his education by obtaining a degree in Computer Engineering from ITT Technical College. His passion and intelligence for the subject was evident, as years later, one of his professors was still using his notes on the overhead projector. A project that Dan had done was also proudly displayed in the college lobby under glass for over a decade.

In his younger years, Dan volunteered as a firefighter for the Rough & Ready Fire Department and was an avid motorcyclist who loved working on his 1956 Chevy pickup. He also had a love for traveling, having embarked on a wonderful journey to Europe with his best friend in 1991, which he always cherished and wished to experience again. Dan found joy in spending time with his loved ones, whether it was camping and hiking with friends or going above and beyond to show his care and compassion towards others.

Dan is survived by his mother, Marie Louise Hudson, sister Karen Hudson Asay, stepchildren, Loree and Erik Casto, and grandchildren, Kaylie, Ashlyn, Jayla, Xzyler, Qylan, Vinley, and Zienna. He also leaves behind his nephews Wailen Hudson, Danny Baron, Nicholas Hudson, Jeremy Hudson, Aaron Hudson, Abraham Asay, and Eli Asay. Dan is predeceased by his father, Darrow G Hudson, and brothers, Cole and Christopher Hudson.

In addition to his family, Dan had many close friends who were like family to him, including Ron and Kerri, Barbara, and Jacque. He also had numerous great-grandchildren and great-nieces and nephews. Coles widow, Geraldine Johnson, is also deeply mourning his loss.

Dan will be remembered by his community as a caring and compassionate person who always put others before himself. His warm smile and kind heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace, Papa Dan.
