David Rossman Obituary

David Rossman

David Rossman passed away Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

David was a life-long role model in service to his family, church, and community, and as a coach and school administrator. He was passionate about his children and grandchildren. He loved to read with them and enjoyed watching them participate in sporting events. He spent time with them camping, four-wheeling, and skiing. He was at the center of many great adventures and he will be missed every day.

David was a 1971 graduate of Arlington High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education and master's degree in administration from Bowling Green State University. He later acquired a superintendent certificate.

David taught junior high math, science, and reading for six years at Arlington. In 1982, he accepted the elementary principal's position at Arlington, which he held for 18 years. During his time at Arlington, he thoroughly enjoyed his roles as assistant football coach and later as head coach. In 2000, he became Superintendent of Elmwood Local Schools in Wood County. During the five years working at Elmwood, he was the district administrator in charge of the construction project of a new pre-K through 12 building. In 2005, he returned to Arlington High School as Superintendent until his retirement in 2007. Between 2005-2008, he was instrumental in organizing and steering the committee which established the Arlington School Foundation. With alumni and community support, the foundation has been a great success.

David was an active member of Good Hope Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, as a trustee, Sunday school teacher, and member of the choir.

David was born in Bluffton to Donald and Isabelle (Kieffer) Rossman.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jane (Moses) Rossman; daughters, Molly Riegle (Mark) and Faye Hawkins (Josh); eight grandchildren, Isabelle, Grant, Cade, and Lane Riegle, and Cooper, Everley, Callen, and Campbell Hawkins; four siblings, Joyce (Bob) Quillen, Jan (Sue), Doug (Robin), and Mark (Paula) Rossman; and a large extended family.

David's funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at Good Hope Lutheran Church, 300 S. Main Street, Arlington, Ohio, 45814. Burial will immediately follow at Arlington Cemetery. A celebration of life will be 12-3 p.m. Saturday at the church after the graveside service.

Dave was a great friend I felt very fortunate to have shared many memorable salmon fishing experiences on Lake Michigan and Lake Ontario. Dave was also a great mentor to our children at Arlington. He was capable to relate to the students like no one else, as we all know Dave was a true kid at heart.
