As children, Barbara and I met at the Feimer music school in Worms, Germany. At first, we only saw each other during the annual concerts at the theater, then our teaching groups were merged, and we saw us each week except for the summer vacation. We became teenagers, we got a driver's license, and we started a car pool for the weekly rehearsals, because we lived pretty close to each other. Barbara, with her first car, a Seat Ibiza "designed by Porsche", in one week, I with my mother's car in the other. But this was not the end: since we were several young adults of the same age, making music with the accordion together, a friendship developed that we also fostered outside the music class: joint private rehearsals and accordion performances, social gatherings, birthdays, wine festivals and much more. One day, Bill showed up and was introduced to this social circle, so that we learnt a lot about American culture and history. A pink birthday cake, strawberry daiquiri, a 110 V converter remain unforgettable - and right in the middle a funny, entertaining, talkative, interested Barbara. After the wedding, which we celebrated together in Worms and at the request of Barbara without the traditional kidnapping of the bride, the newlyweds moved to the new home country USA. The joint rehearsals and celebrations were over, but the contact was held so that - also I had been married in the meantime and received a daughter - we visited Barbara, Bill and Alexander with our small family in Liverpool, NY, USA, in September 2003. After a nice time in their house, we left for a wonderful round trip, with unforgettable moments, on which we were still living for a long time. Back in Germany, we stayed in touch and met with our families during Barbara´s and Bill's home visits in Worms and the region for exchange, playing, plashing, ice skating, visiting amusement parks.
I'm endlessly sad. I'll miss you a lot, Barbara.
Bill, you and your sons, we wish you strength and confidence.
