Ellen Carter Obituary

Ellen Carter
August 20, 1937 - November 2, 2023
Ellen Margaret Carter, a beloved teacher, accomplished musician, and passionate traveler, passed away in early November. Ellen enjoyed an active and engaged life for 86 years, and then lost a short, valiant struggle with cancer, which she had battled successfully four times.
Born in Osceola, Iowa, in the 1930s, Ellen attended USC, earning a Bachelor of Music, and meeting her husband of 66+ years, Harry Carter, who passed away last March.
Ellen's career was marked by her dedication to teaching, first as a classroom teacher and then as a music teacher in the Hayward Unified School District. Ellen and Harry also shared a love for travel, visiting countless countries and culminating in their final journey to the Greek Islands in October 2022.
Ellen's life was rich in achievements and relationships. She balanced her professional life with a deep commitment to her family, raising two sons and delighting in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her loss is deeply felt by her sons and sister, and her extended family, including six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Ellen's spirited and impactful life will be held on January 20, at 2:00 p.m. at the Eden United Church of Christ, 21455 Birch Street, Hayward, Calif. 94541 www.edenucc.com. Donations in Ellen's memory to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society are welcomed.
