Sharon Lucille (Dulany) Tallon
Nov. 24, 1938 - Nov. 4, 2023
BLOOMINGTON - Sharon Lucille (Dulany) Tallon, 84, of Bloomington, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center.
Sharon was born November 24, 1938, in Champaign County, IL, the daughter of George H. and Ethel Mae (Fancher) Dulany. She married Robert Tallon on March 16, 1958, in Downs, IL. He preceded her in death on June 17, 1985.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Christopher Tallon; and brother, Carl Dulany.
Surviving are her children: Tim (Debbie) Tallon, and Candi (Gary Fitton) Tallon; grandchildren: Stephanie (Brian) Nettleton, Shawn (Jennifer) Diggs, and Chelsie (Steffon) Schulz; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Landon, Aydan, Lyla, Nevaeh, Colton, Owen and Everly; a sister, Liz (Ron Jones) Dulany-Jones; sisters-in-law, Mary K. Dulany and Ruth Hargis; a brother-in-law, Lyle (Kathie) Tallon; and many loving nieces and nephews and their families.
Sharon was proud to be a farmer's daughter, wife and mother. As the oldest child, she helped care for the crops and animals, and showed livestock at the fair. She raised her family on the same farm she grew up on outside of Downs, where her son also raised his family.
Sharon started at State Farm Insurance right after high school in 1956, and advanced as a respected communicator, retiring in 2006. During this time, and after her kids were grown, she went to Illinois State University part-time and earned her bachelor's degree in Communications. Sharon made numerous life-long friends at State Farm whom she dearly treasured.
Sharon loved spending time with her family - helping at school, cheering at their many activities, and taking them on outings. She had a special place in her heart for her beloved cats and any animal that crossed her path (or entered her door). Sharon also enjoyed playing cards, dominoes and word games. She was a creative photographer and writer, often inspired by the outdoors and her log cabin home in the woods located on the banks of the Little Mackinaw River.
Sharon had a strong faith and rededicated herself to God in her 70s. She truly enjoyed Bible study and attending both the Mackinaw and Wesley Methodist churches. Though she'll be missed by many, her life on earth was full and God blessed her with peace by taking her home.
Sharon's funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Carmody Flynn Funeral Home in Bloomington, IL. Her visitation will be held an hour beforehand at the funeral home. A graveside service will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Downs. The family invites you to join them in wearing jeans and flannel or other comfortable fall clothing as this was Sharon's preferred wear.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's support, the American Heart Association, or an animal rescue of your choice.
The family gives special thanks to OSF and Carriage Crossing Staff for their support and care.

Candi your mother was an inspiring woman. Working with her at many points in our careers and ever changing roles; a constant was my respect for her and joy at laughing together. She had a lovely laugh. It was a privilege to work with her during her final years before retiring from the company in the Education Leadership Unit .

Sharon and I were work partners and friends for my entire State Farm career. She was dedicated and dealt with many changes and challenges, always coming out stronger and smiling. I am out of town Friday, so will miss her service. My regards to the family.
