Joyce Ann Jones Rogers, (aka) Joy, 83 has finished the race and entered into rest in Jesus on July 30, 2023. She fought the good fight and kept the faith.
Joy was born Sept. 9, 1939 at home in Eagle Station, KY to the late Eveain Buster Jones and late Zelma Smith Jones Black. For many years, after her father's tragic death, she lived several years with her aunt and uncle, Kathleen (Atine she called her) and Delmar Hisle Lewis on their 150 acre farm in Turners Station, KY along with her sister Joan (Jones) Ruch. It was here that she learned about God and good work ethic, the same values she shared with her own family.
She was baptized in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in 1955. She also served as treasurer at the Owensboro KY SDA church.
Even though she married at a very young age before finishing high school she completed her GED in 1981.
She enjoyed driving a school bus for over 10 years in Owensboro, KY. Joy was a master seamstress and had three "Joy's Alterations" shops in three different cities, Owensboro, KY, Bowling Green, KY, and Beaver Dam, KY. Soon after moving to Turners Station, KY in 1991 she began her "Window Treatments by Joy" business. She retired this business in 2011 due to the challenges of having Parkinson's.
Joy enjoyed water skiing, walking on her treadmill or outside enjoying the Kentucky countryside. She loved vegetable and flower gardening especially on her 30-acre farm in Turners Station, KY. She was often found playing horseshoes, swimming in the trough on hot summer days, riding her 4-wheeler, swinging on her home porch or in the red barn, and dancing to her favorite singers, Alan Jackson and Elvis. Throughout Joy's life she had beloved dogs namely Alice, Katydid and Taylor. Joy had many fond memories of the Smith and Jones family get togethers over the years.
Joy also enjoyed motorcycle riding. She and her late husband, Gerald, rode his Goldwing motorcycle 7 times around America. Since, as she put it "Gerald would not stop to see the sites", she would sit her video recorder on her shoulder to capture the beautiful country. The family spent many hours watching those videos.
Her belief in God helped get her through the daily challenges of Parkinson's for 22 years. Her strong fortitude has been an inspiration. Joy's advice to those that either have Parkinson's or those that may get it is "don't give into it". Joy will be remembered for her words of wisdom, like her 15-minute rule. It states, "you have 15 minutes to feel sorry for yourself then get off your butt and do something about it."
Joy will also be remembered for her unconditional love, sweet personality, love of making someone else feel good about themselves and the love of laughter. No matter what the situation Joy was in she always looked for the positive.
She is preceded in death by her father, Eveain Buster Jones, her mother, Zelma Smith Jones Black, her stepfather, Robert Black, her sister, Joan Evelyn Jones Ruch, and her brother-in-law Darryl Rogers.
Her very important deep life will be missed by her son Dennis (Jan) Rogers of Beaver Dam, KY, daughter Denise (Al) Gleason of Franklin, TN, and daughter Teresa Rogers of Yucaipa, CA as well as her 4 grandchildren Matthew (Emily) Rogers of Murfreesboro, TN, Daniel (Beth) Rogers of Bowling Green, KY, Nicole Gleason and Luke Gleason of Franklin, TN. 5 great-grandchildren Evelyn Joy, James Matthew and Jack Mason of Murfreesboro, TN, Ella Katharyn and Dillan Morgan of Bowling Green, KY and her sister-in-law Lynn (Bill) Burgess of Cromwell, KY and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to be made to
