William Childress Obituary

William "Bill" Holmes Childress Jr. formerly of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on November 1, 2023 in Cary, North Carolina with his children by his side.

Born on December 10, 1948, to the late William Holmes Childress, Sr. and Dorothy Tuck Childress, Bill's life was filled with passion and enthusiasm for the things he held dear. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, following their victories and defeats with unwavering loyalty.

Bill had a knack for bringing out the best in everything he touched, especially when it came to detailing cars. Friends and family always knew that when Bill took care of their cars, they would leave with a showroom-quality finish.

He was a long time employee of Wilson Trucking in Lynchburg, Virginia, before retiring and moving to North Carolina to be close to family. Wegmans held a special place in Bill's heart, where he dedicated his time and effort to his job. His strong work ethic and friendly demeanor made him an indispensable part of the Wegmans family. His co-workers and customers alike appreciated his warm smile and willingness to help.

However, the truest testament to Bill's character was his unwavering dedication to his wife and his immense love for his family. He cherished his role as a husband, father, and PawPaw, always putting his family's well-being and happiness above all else. The love and support he provided were boundless, and his family knew they could count on him through thick and thin.

Bill's genuine friendship and caring nature endeared him to everyone he met. He had a unique ability to make people feel valued and cherished, a true friend to all. His presence will be deeply missed, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Bill is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Diane Falwell Childress. Bill is survived by his daughter, Kelly Williams Eller and husband Trae, son David Childress and wife Lindsay, and four grandchildren: Jacob, Addyson, Rachael, and Walter. He is also survived by his brother Wayne Childress, sisters Regina "Jeanie" Glass and Linda Cawthorne, and brother Samuel Childress.

Bill was a great friend when we lived in Stuart Heights in Lynchburg .
We all grew up together in the 50s and 60s . He and I fished together and attended many baseball games as well.
Prayers and blessings to his children, grandchildren and brothers and sisters .

Sincerely

My deepest sympathy to Bills family. I had the pleasure of meeting Bill when he worked with My Husband Donald Thomas at Wilson Trucking. Bills infectious smile and personality made him a joy to know. I never met His wife personally , but we became friends thru facebook. I was so very saddened to hear of her passing. We spoke with Bill days later and his heart was breaking you could tell. But even then Bill ask how we were.. That´s Bill.. still caring to check on how we were. I know that smile is lighting up Heaven now and holding his Precious Dianes hand. Rest in peace Bill and Diane ,forever together again.
