John J. Aaron "JohnO", age 77, of Prospect Park (formerly of Southwest Philadelphia), passed away on June 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in SW Philadelphia, JohnO graduated from John Bartram High School in 1967. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War. John retired in 2003 from Ryerson Steel, where he worked as a dedicated foreman.
He enjoyed crossword puzzles, trips to the casino, lottery scratch-offs, boating, and Sunday FunDay. A passionate Philadelphia sports fan, John also gave back to his community by coaching and refereeing youth sports through his hometown parish, Good Shepherd.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Elizabeth Aaron, and his brother, Joe Aaron.
John is survived by his loving children, Jason Aaron and Lucille (Pat) Myers; his stepchildren, Diana (Bob) Gallop, Andrew (Danielle) Challender, and Ryan (Gabrielle) Challender; and his beloved life partner and companion, Maria Challender. He was a cherished Pop-Pop to Mia, Jason, Jacob, Ceirnin, Christian, Bobby, Jack, Victor, and Grant. He is also survived by his dear siblings, Billy (Patty) Aaron, Michael (Colleen) Aaron, Betsy Aaron, and Cecelia Aaron, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
