With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Carla Sue Melton, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, who left us on April 15th, 2025. Carla's warmth, kindness, and unwavering strength touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on March 14th, 1959, in Beckley, West Virginia, Carla lived her life with a spirit of determination and joy that inspired us all. She was not only an inspiration but also a source of comfort and laughter to those around her.
For over 30 years, she embraced her love of running as both a challenge and a sanctuary, running countless miles and completing several marathons-including the prestigious Boston Marathon. Running wasn't just a hobby for Carla; it was a testament to her perseverance and a reflection of her deep inner strength.
Beyond her love of running, Carla was the heartbeat of her family-a source of unwavering support, wisdom, and laughter. Whether cheering loved ones on in their own endeavors or finding beauty in everyday moments, she led with kindness and grace. Carla's love for her family knew no bounds. She was the heart of every home, the guiding light in difficult times, and the unwavering support behind every dream. Whether through her contagious smile, how easily she could laugh, her wise words, or the simple ways she made life beautiful, Carla will always be remembered as someone who brought joy and love to all.
She is survived by her husband, Don Schena, her mother, Donna Sue Specht (Cox), children Noelle Neel, John Neel (Julia), and Matthew Neel (Haley), brothers David Mann and Kurt Mann (Melanie), stepdaughter Marisa Gildea (Casey), and nine grandchildren, plus nieces and nephews. Carla was preceded in death by her father, Carl Mann. We will all cherish her memory and honor her legacy and are so thankful for the time we had sharing our lives with Carla.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the UC Health Anschutz Medical Campus - Oncology Department.
Though she may no longer be with us, Carla's spirit will forever remain in our hearts, moving forward with love and purpose.
