Alan Hammack Jr., age 27, of Sykesville passed away on Tuesday, May 17 at his home. He was born on July 19, 1994 in Olney, MD, the son of Craig A. Hammack Sr. and Liza Quayle Hammack of Mount Airy. He married the love of his life, Rachel Morrison Hammack in October 2020. Alan was a 2012 graduate of Urbana High School, where he played varsity baseball. His baseball passion began at age 6 playing for various youth baseball teams over the years. He attended James Madison University where he studied Environmental Science and was on the archery team, a new sport passion of his. For the past eight years he worked towards and became a master mechanic. During this time employment included work with the Montgomery County Police Fleet and as a diesel mechanic with Howard County Central Fleet. In January, he joined the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service working on emergency vehicles. In addition, he was a talented wood worker, operating Harmony Woodcraft with his wife. He custom designed and crafted beautiful and unique pieces of wood art. He also enjoyed working on cars and his two historic Chevy trucks, which he had hoped to restore someday. He loved and will be missed by his dogs, "Hershey" and "Tucker". In addition to his wife and parents, Alan is survived by his sister, Emily Lyles (Phil), and his adored nephew and niece, Chase and Olivia Lyles. He is also survived by his in-laws, Rick and Judy Morrison; sister-in-law, Laura Ginsberg (Brian); grandfather, Harold Quayle; grandmother-in-law, Sara Lee Jacobson; uncle, Hal Quayle (Mary); aunts, Meredith Murray (Brian) and Betsey Collins; and cousins, Landon Quayle (Chia), Britton Quayle (Ashley) and Devon Murray; and numerous extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Martha Quayle, and Ron and Shirley Hammack. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home - Libertytown, 11802 Liberty Rd., Frederick on Tuesday, May 24 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 25 at 2 p.m. Rabbi Floyd Herman will officiate.
