Paul Jones Obituary
Paul William Jones, of Worton, Maryland, passed away peacefully at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, surrounded by his loving family and his faithful companion dog, Lucy, who was never far from his lap.
Born on April 28, 1937, Paul was the son of the late Edward Jones and Mary Elizabeth "Tippy"(Elburn) Jones. He was raised in Rock Hall, Maryland, where he enjoyed playing baseball and soccer and graduated from Rock Hall High School in 1956.
Paul worked for 32 years at the A&P grocery store in Chestertown, MD, where he was a familiar and friendly face to many in the community. Never one to sit still for long, Paul went on to work at the Moffett Farm after retiring from A&P. Later, he earned his CDL license and spent many years as an oil truck driver for Pardee Oil, a job he held into the 2010s.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 and a half years, Margaret Ann Coleman Jones, and their daughter, Charlene Luber.
Paul had a deep love for music, dancing, painting, and sports. He found joy in socializing with friends at McDonald's and attending class reunions. He was known for his warm smile and quick wit. One of his favorite places was the daycare run by his daughter-in-law in the '90's, where he and his wife were affectionately known as "Mom Mom and Pop Pop" by all the children.
But nothing brought Paul greater happiness than being "Pop Pop" to his grandchildren. He delighted in taking his granddaughters to the park and the circus when they were young and cherished every moment he spent with his family.
He is survived by his devoted son, Thomas Nelson Tarr, and daughter-in-law, B.J. Tarr of Goldsboro, MD; his granddaughters Katharine Parry (Evan) and Kristen Hutchison (Brad); and six great-grandchildren who were the light of his life: Mason, Raylan, Bryson, and Tuck Hutchison, and Everly and Harlan Parry.
A private memorial service will be held.
Paul's legacy lives on in the kindness he showed, the fun stories he told, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His family would also like to extend their appreciation to the nurses and staff of Compass Regional Hospice.
Arrangements by Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech.
