In eighth grade, I was on the Mt. Carmel football team. The highlight of the year was to play our cross-town rival, St. Stephen, under the lights at the high school. I played a tight end and they called a play for a quick pass to the left tight end (me). I somehow caught the ball and all that was between me and the endzone was a scrawny little kid who turned out to be Pat. Well, that scrawny little kid hit me on my shoelaces, and I fell...and lost my chance at glory. I held a grudge until meeting on the practice field next to Washington Junior High where I shared my story with him of lost glory...and had a good laugh! In fact, I can never remember having a conversation with him without laughing.
My condolences to his wife and kids. I am sure he will be greatly missed.
