William Allen Obituary

William (Bill) Ackerman Allen passed away on December 11, 2023, surrounded by love.
Bill was born in Yonkers, New York, in 1941-the first child of Jim and Eileen Allen, who went on to give Bill nine siblings.
The family moved to Tucson, AZ in 1950. Bill graduated from the University of Arizona in 1963, winning a varsity letter in swimming his freshman year. He then moved to California and received his J.D. at Pepperdine University.
In 1988, Bill became a Commissioner for the Los Angeles County Superior Court California where he earned a reputation as a fair jurist, whose insights, well written judgments, and practical rulings were seldom challenged.
He attributed his expertise at calming the waters and arbitrating disputes in the courtroom to his position as the oldest sibling.
Bill loved athletics (swimming, body surfing, golf, hiking, racquetball), fine food (knew where to eat, what to eat, and how to prepare it), reading (a voracious reader, book recommendations were always at the ready), the arts (musical theater, foreign films, museums, etc.) travel (told you not only where to go but where to eat). His incomparable quick wit accompanied all he did.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Sexton Allen (Kathy), who gave him unparalleled happiness the last 30 years of his life; daughters, Elisabeth (Liz) and Rebecca (Becky) Allen, and Kristin Allen-Farmer (Tai), and two granddaughters, Kiana and Emma; eight siblings (Betsy, Nancy, Kathy, Peter, Ellen, Patti, Michael and Barbara), and numerous nieces and nephews. His brother and dear friend, Dean, predeceased him.
The memorial service is private. Donations in his memory can be made to the charity of your choice.

I just recently heard of Commissioner Allen´s passing. I knew him professionally while working for LA Superior Court. He was always thoughtful, fair and compassionate to the families he served and my favorite Judge to work for in the Family Law Department. My heartfelt condolences to his wife, Kathy and the Allen family. Your honor, RIP.

My brother Bill-book lover, theatre goer, film aficionado, game organizer and changer of its rules, wit, insightful observer of human foibles. Doting grandfather, father, brother and friend. His best years spent with all of us with his beloved wife kathy by his side. Heaven, open your doors wide for this beautiful loving man.

I was a tenant of Bill Allen for a few years, and he couldn't have been a better landlord. He was fair and had a bit of a dry wit. Condolences to the family especially at this time of year.

To one of the coolest, hippest Dad's ever. You'll be missed Dad, but your legacy will carry on. What a journey we had - you emphasize how important an education was, taught us how to ride a bike, swim, boogie board in the ocean and play tennis. You loved telling the Charles scary stories to all my friends. There was lots of hiking, River Rafting, great meals and concerts - Elvis, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Neil Diamond and who can say they went to see Bruce Springsteen 15 times with their Dad. We might hold a record. We had lots of wonderful day trips and vacations together. My 30 photo albums of our history will keep the memories fresh and alive. I'll miss you terribly, but know your spirit still lives on. Until we meet again. Your loving daughter Elisabeth(Liz) Shaw Allen
