Timothy Carter Obituary

Timothy Carter

June 30, 1955 - October 9, 2023

Chicago, Illinois - Timothy (Tim) Doran Carter, 68, of Chicago, Illinois passed away on October 6, 2023.

Tim was born on June 30, 1955 to Houston and Mary Cecilia Carter in Kansas City, Missouri. After graduating from Raytown South in 1973, Tim went on to pursue a career on the railroad, eventually retiring from a management position and collecting his railroad pension.

While an advocate for workers' rights, Tim worked to live and didn't live to work. His real passion were his family and friends. He left behind 3 siblings (Kathi, Patti, and Bill) 5 children (William, Anthony, Mary, Carmen and Caleen), 2 son-in-laws (Daniel and John), 9 grandchildren, and countless others that considered him an uncle or called him Poppy. Tim was unendingly proud of his grandchildren and loved to take them for an ice cream sundae lunch.

Tim struggled with alcoholism throughout most of his life and had been sober for the last decade. His disease, and more importantly his sobriety, were a cornerstone of his personality. He was forever grateful to AA meetings and his friends at them that were such an important part of his life. He felt forever indebted and a deep love for his family and friends that stuck with him through the good times, and the bad. He had a gratitude for life, family, and friendships that is rarely seen.

Anyone who knew Timothy knew that he was the most loving and funniest father, Poppy, uncle, brother, and friend one could ask for. He was predeceased in life by his parents and leaves behind an immeasurable hole in the hearts of many. For all those that loved him, please have an ice cream sundae in his memory and remember: peace, love, and pancakes.

There will be a visitation and memorial service with lunch to follow on Saturday, October 14th starting at 9 am at St. Patrick's Parish (1357 NE 42nd Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64116).

I am so, so saddened to see this even now. I wish I would have k own at the time. I am so very sorry for his family. Tim was such a funny, funny young man in high school and still the same funny man after so many years. This breaks my heart. He was a good person, and there aren't a lot left in this world like Tim. We sat next to each other in typing class our senior year! I had so much fun in that class because of Tim! I was blessed to have known him, and to have him as a friend, especially when in high school!
Rest in peace Tim. No pain now.

Me

November 5, 2023

So many people loved you. And you loved so many of us. Today, Sr. Judy was at the 11 o'clock mass. She's been back at the Mother House (in Leavenworth KS for a while now.) She expressed how sad she felt to miss your funeral service. She also said you were both a "gentleman" and a "gentle man". Your service was well-attended. But there were probably about 7 times more hearts and souls in attendance than bodies.

My first memory of him was how rough his hands were when he picked me up. But they were strong hands and made you feel safe. I love you Dad.

I love you. I miss you. Yoga brought us together and we had fantastic times there, hugely because of you. My boys will always remember the special yoga move you taught them . Putting their arm around the back of their head to make it to come around and pick their nose.
