Douglas Tait Obituary

Tait, Douglas James 10/15/1949 - 3/1/2022 Walker D. James (Jim) Tait II, age 72 of Walker, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, and now is walking with Jesus. He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Ruth Tait. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Lynda Tait; children, Jamie (Kendra) Tait, Laurie (Chris) Carter, Abbie Verberkmoes; grandchildren, Allie, Noah, Anna, Mary, Liam, Luke, Jake, Asher, Elli, Preston; sister, Jean (Steve) Gee. Jim passionately loved the Lord and his family. His deep relationship with Christ and devotion to God's Word was lived out through his continual service to his family and so many others. He worked as a pastor, workplace chaplain, college professor as well as a handyman for many. Jim was a talented craftsman, avid scholar, and outdoor enthusiast. He had a great sense of humor and was a creative fun-loving grandfather. Jim enjoyed being a lifetime learner. He obtained a bachelor's degree from Philadelphia College of Bible, master's degree from Wheaton College, master's degree from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. A celebration of his life will be held 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 8 at Ada Bible Church, 3869 Knapp Street NE, Grand Rapids with visitation one hour prior to the service with pastor Kevin Baker officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm on Monday at MKD Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont. Dear Lynda: I was surprised to see Jim's name pop up in my email. Until I tried to find information about his service last year, I didn't know his first name was not "Jim." to see his smiling face once again today was a happy moment. I think my friend and neighbor Peggy Myslenski and I were two of his original "handyman" regulars. We could always count on good [and speedy!] work, creative solutions, and interesting conversation. I remember when he fixed the cupalo on my roof, he said you might want one too. I only just recently got the name of a potential "handyman." He is going to help a garage door guy replace my heavy garage door. Gotta have it - I'm "older" now. We shall see how he measures up. Blessings to you and your family. Sincerely

I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I did not hear about it until it was too late to attend his Celebration of Life Service. I only today found this post. I only knew Jim as a "handyman" but it didn't take long to know he was so much more. He was willing to share his views, but never "preached" at us. I liked to say to him "you know, Jim, you helped me piece my house back together." Two things stand out at the moment = I had a bad leak involving my small front porch. He stood puzzling over it for a few minutes, and finally said, "well, we'll just raise the roof." And he did. Another time he fixed my stove. I was in another room, but I heard him say "Praise the Lord!" when he got it all set. Well, I said," Jim I have to say I have never had my stove blessed before!' He was a good man, cheerful, and I never knew anyone who worked so quickly and came up with great ideas to make things work. I still have a message from him on my machine. Wishing Lynda and Jim's children and many grandchildren peaceful days filled with happy memories.

We were saddened to hear of Jim's passing but rejoice that he is healed and whole now. We are so grateful that he presided over our wedding 31 years ago. It is a beautiful memory and one we will always cherish. Mark remembers fondly the early days of his Christian walk meeting with Jim for Bible study. We are grateful that he was part of these significant milestones in our lives so many years ago. Love, Mark and Susan

Jim made a huge difference in this world and now he is with Jesus. In all the years we knew him we never heard Jim say a bad word about anyone. He was a true example of a Godly man who loved his Lord, his wife and family. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was truly one of the good guys. I know there is a great celebration in Heaven as they welcome Jim home. Linda, Laurie and Jamie we love you and are praying for Gods arms to hold you all close during this time.
