James Herceg Obituary
James S. Herceg Sr., 77, of Nazareth, PA, died October 23, 2023, at home due to complications from heart failure. Born April 25, 1946, in Easton, PA, Jim was the son of the late George J. and Mamie M. (Bartholomew) Herceg. Jim celebrated his 56th wedding anniversary with his wife, Linda (Bath) Herceg, on October 14, 2023.
Jim graduated from Nazareth High School in 1964, where he was Senior Class President, and captain of both the football and wrestling teams. He garnered PA All-State honorable mention honors for football.
Jim coached both football and wrestling when his children were young in Slatington, PA and Nazareth, PA. Jim was also the President of the Nazareth Midget Wrestling Booster Club for many years.
Jim was an avid hunter of both deer and turkeys and was an active member of the Grassy Island Creek Rod & Gun Club in Pike County, PA for over 58 years. He loved the outdoors and could often be found working in his garden and tending to his fruit trees in the backyard. But he enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family, traveling the country and world with Linda, and attending the sporting events of his sons and later his grandchildren.
Jim worked as a Purchasing Manager at Lone Star (later Essroc Cement Corp.) from 1981 until his retirement in 2008.
He is survived by his wife Linda, sons Jim Jr. (wife Elaine), Ken (wife Mashil), Michael, (wife Nicole), and Stephen (wife Laura), brother George R. Herceg (wife Joanne), 13 grandchildren, 2 nephews and one niece.
Arrangements are being handled by the Bartholomew-Schisler Funeral Home, 211 E. Center St., Nazareth, PA. Friends and family are invited to attend the graveside funeral service and interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Nazareth, PA on Monday, October 30, 2023, at 12:30 p.m. with a luncheon to follow at the St. Johns UCC church in Nazareth, PA.
Memorials: Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in c/o the funeral home.

Sharon and I just returned home after a 17 day European vacation and heard about Jim. Jim was a great guy introducing us to Uncle Wesley´s and making us part of the Nazareth wrestling family. It was a honor to know Jim and he will be missed by all.

Jim was always a quiet unassuming leader whether he was class President or President of the Wrestling Booster Club. You always knew you were in good hands with Jim at the helm. Jim and Linda raised 4 wonderful children and are proud of all their grandchildren.
Jim and Linda were always there for Jim Jr ,Ken,Mike,and Steve. The Herceg family is synonymous with Nazareth Wrestling.
Although Jim was a quiet leader, he was anything but quiet on the football field and wrestling mat. His aggressive style always stood out and he always encouraged his teammates. Jim was a GREAT FRIEND for many reasons and he will be missed. Our condolences go out to Linda and the entire Herceg family.

Jim was a great leader whether he was Class President, Booster Club Leader or Captain of the Football andWrestling Teams. His quiet unassuming approach made it easy to follow his leadership. However when he was on the football field or wrestling mat there was nothing but intensity. He was outstanding in both sports and stood out with his intensity. The Herceg Family is synonymous with Nazareth Wrestling. Linda and Jim raised a wonderful family and their passion for life is always noticeable through Jim Jr,Ken,Mike and Steve.
