A Memorial Service Remembering the Life of Sgt. James Elisha Carter, III, 24, of Lincoln, will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at S.M. Goodson Funeral Home Chapel. Professional services entrusted to S.M. Goodson Funeral Home and Crematory-Talladega. Sgt. James Elisha Carter, III, a beloved son, brother, and friend was born on January 30, 1999, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to parents Harold Carter and Tanya Harding. James accepted Christ as his Lord and personal Savior on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, while attending Brown's Chapel in Sylacauga, Alabama. Throughout his life, James exemplified strength and perseverance. He graduated from B.B. Comer High School in 2017 and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army for five years. Following his active duty, James continued to serve in the Army Reserve while pursuing his passion for technology as an IT Specialist. He was an exceptional soldier and received numerous awards and commendations, including the Army Commendation Medal and Army Achievement Medal, (22nd Award), Army Achievement Medal (4th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Driver and Mechanic Badge. At the time of his passing, he was employed with Project Management Information Technology Specialist Omya Agricultural. James was a kind-hearted and talented individual who touched the lives of all who knew him. He was a devoted son to his bonus parents, Brandan and Robyn Whittington who loved him unconditionally. Outside of his military service, James enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He found solace in playing video games, keeping fit at the gym, and indulging in his favorite treats, twizzlers, and Nutella - he was a true lover of sweets. James also cherished his time with family and friends, creating lasting memories that will be forever treasured. On October 1, 2023, in Lincoln, Alabama, Sgt. James Elisha Carter, III traded this walk of life for eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his mother, Tanya Harding. James leaves behind a bonus family who loved him dearly, including his caring parents, Brandan and Robyn Whittington; his dear sisters, Cate Whittington and Carlee Whittington; uncle and aunt, Kermit Jackson and Yolanda Jackson; cousins, Kermit Jackson, Kendall Jackson, and Kameron Jackson; bonus grandparents, Anita and Jeff Karnes and Wayne and Laura Whittington; and a host of other relatives, friends, and his army soldiers. Those who knew James will remember him for his warm smile, compassionate nature, and infectious laughter. His presence brightened any room he entered, and his genuine concern for others touched the hearts of many. James Elisha Carter III will forever remain in our hearts and memories.
