GEORGE REUSS Obituary

George Reuss, 94, passed away November 21, 2023, in Naperville, IL. George was born in Aurora, IL on January 12, 1929. He was a longtime resident of Wheaton, IL, where he lived with his wife Joan for over five decades. George was a proud graduate of East Aurora High School (class of 1947) and the University of Illinois (Class of 1951), where he earned a business degree. It was at the U of I that George met his wife, Joan, where they both worked at the university library. After graduating from college, George served in the U.S. Army for two years, including time in Korea during the Korean War. After military service, he worked for Illinois Bell and AT&T for 37 years in the Comptrollers Department where he held various positions. Prior to his retirement in 1990 he held the dual positions of General Internal Auditor and General Security Manager at Illinois Bell. George was involved with his community and served on the Wheaton Board of Zoning Appeals for 21 years. Throughout his life he was an avid sports fan with particular interest in baseball, golf, and University of Illinois college basketball. After his golfing days ended, his interests turned to photography, travel, and enjoying time with his grandson, Cameron. George was a devoted bridge player and enjoyed his bridge groups 3 days a week right up until the end of his life. He is survived by his daughter, Katherine (Reuss) Carrus and son-in-law, Ian Carrus; grandson, Cameron Carrus; and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, George Reuss and mother, Mary Belle (Gorrie) Reuss; sisters, Ruth (Reuss) Boorkman and Dorothy (Reuss) Persons and brother. Robert Reuss; and George's beloved wife, Joan Webster Reuss.
