VIRGINIA ELLEN HOLTER
February 4, 1928 ˜ December 24, 2023

Virginia passed away peacefully at 95 years old, surrounded by her family in Vancouver, WA. She was born on Feb. 4, 1928, to Grover and Mittie Cozean in Fredericktown, MO. Virginia graduated from Harris Teachers College. She taught school in St. Louis, Redwood City and Santa Clara.
Virginia married Howard Holter in 1954. They moved to California, where they had their two children, Stephen and Kathy. Music gave her great pleasure, and was important to her throughout her life. In Santa Clara, she was involved with the Young Audiences Organization, and many operas. In 1972, the family moved to Vancouver, where Virginia sang with The Vancouver USA Singers, church choirs, opera performances, and helped promote the Center for the Arts. Virginia enjoyed time with her family, genealogy, researching information on her computer, hiking, traveling, operas, volunteering at Share House, zoom Bible studies and her church. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Howard and Virginia were married for 60 years until his death in 2014. She is survived by her son, Stephen Holter (Amy); daughter, Kathy Shank (Tom); granddaughter, Gabriella Holter; grandson, Jacob Holter; and two great-granddaughters.
There will be a memorial service Saturday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 4300 Main St., Vancouver, WA 98663.

Well Mom, it has been a year since you departed this earth. I still miss you so much and often turn to the phone to call you. Then sadly recall that you are gone. It is so hard to process as you were always there for me. I hope you knew how much I loved you. Love, Steve

I was very happy to have been in contact with Virginia Holter in 2004. She shared information about her vocal studies with Helene Piotrovsky, a student of Pauline Viardot-Garcia-a famous singing teacher. May her memory be a blessing.

I am deeply saddened hearing the news of Virginia bidding us farewell.
We both had a love for singing and especially of Opera. Many special moments were shared on stage singing duets and ensembles in concert. She was well educated and well versed about Opera and famous singers of which she had quite an association with during her time on stage. She even hosted her own special T.V. program with Opera segments and singers.
She was enthusiastic about sharing her talent and continued singing well into her 80's. She would often tell me that "I vocalized to a high 'A' today.
Virginia always brought a smile and positive attitude where ever she went.
I will miss you so, Virginia, but hold many treasured memories of our times together.

I'm saddened to learn that my dear friend has passed. I first met Howard and Gini in 1973 when I worked at the Vancouver VA. Howard and I had an instant connection and began running marathons. My wife and Gini joined us at the British Columbia Marathon, late night desserts at the Holland, and hilarious date night movies that Gini often selected. I was fortunate to have spent a few precious hours with her this past June when she joined me for dinner at the Olive Garden. We talked about her life with Howard, and her love for singing. I will miss her ~ my condolences to Kathy, Steve and their families. May you rest in peace Dear Gini ~ Bob
