THOMAS DENNIS SHEEHAN

1945 - 2022

THOMAS SHEEHAN Obituary

Thomas Dennis Sheehan, 77 years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Scripps Hospital in Encinitas, CA with his significant other and best friend, Sandy Morrow, at his side. Born on April 23, 1945 in Santa Rosa, CA, to Thomas and Sophia Sheehan (nee Gramczak), Tom grew up and lived in Chicago until moving to Rancho Santa Fe, CA in 2019.

He was a devoted husband to the late Sandra (nee Foster) and loving father of Matthew. Preceded in death by his parents and loving brother, Danny, Tom is survived by his sister, Pat, nephew Tommy Sheehan, great nephews Reilly and Sam Sheehan, and many cousins and second cousins.

After graduating from Loyola University in Chicago, Tom taught for several years in the Chicago Parochial Schools including St. Rita High School, his alma mater. Some of his friends from the Mini Brutes football team lured him away from teaching and into the banking world at Continental Bank in Chicago. He was later recruited to Washington, D.C. by the Department of Housing and Urban Development as a Director of federal banking and loan policy. His son, Matthew, was born during this time. Tom eventually returned to Chicago to be closer to family and worked as a Senior Vice-President of Operations at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago until retiring in 2009.

Tom was an avid sports fan who supported the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bears. He was a devoted family man and blessed in his later years to find his beloved, Sandy Morrow, who through their time together changed his life and made him happier than ever. Their many trips and wonderful friends, in Chicago and in their new California community, made for some of the most fulfilling and happy times of his life. Tom especially loved golfing and socializing with friends at Morgan Run Golf Club.

Cremation was private at Dignity Memorial El Camino Memorial Park, San Diego, CA. The family will host a private celebration of Tom's life for family and close friends in Chicago later this month. Tom will be missed by all who knew and loved him and will be in our hearts forever.

Tom #26, we had so many great times throughout the years...playing football and softball games with the Mini Brutes and Continental Bank, Red Barrel "Home of the Mini Brutes", working together at Continental Bank, Two Rivers Tournaments, golf outings in Illinois and Arizona and so many times just sitting, relaxing, talking and laughing over good food and drinks...so many drinks!
You were always a great friend and I'll certainly miss your quirky sense of humor. I know you're in a better place, so rest in peace my friend. I'll miss you, as will all of the Mini Brutes family. Keep an eye on all of us!

To the Sheehan Family... I am sorry for your loss. Your family has been added to my prayers. I pray for your comfort and strength. I add to the plethora of people who have had the honor of knowing Tom.
I worked with/reported to Tom at Federal Home Loan Bank. He was a great man to work for. A man with great character morals and integrity. The world is emptier without him in it. Peace be with the Sheehan Family.

My siblings and I are so sorry to hear of Mr. Sheehan´s passing. We all knew him from when he taught at Nativity of Our Lord School in Bridgeport, Chicago in the 70´s. I always spoke of him as the best teacher I ever had. He taught us the street grid of Chicago and I´ve used that knowledge my whole life. I also remember the map quizzes, where we had a minute to find some tiny location on a big world map. He was smart, funny and entertaining. Sounds like he lived a great life after he left teaching. Please accept our deepest sympathy and may he rest in peace.

So sorry to hear this news. Tom was my supervisor twice at Continental Bank, once in letters of credit (I remember his late wife Sandy Foster too), and again in loan documentation. Thanks to our mutual friend, Jack Lyndon (a loan doc coworker), Jack, Tom, and I would periodically have lunch at the Walnut Room. My wife, Pam Schmidutz, fondly recalls Tom at Continental having met him through her former boss Jim Borowitz.

Mr. Sheehan was my homeroom history teacher at St. Rita H.S. 1967-1968. He was well liked by the students and was very tall, about 6'3" if I recall. I can still remember his mannerisms and his teaching style. It was interesting reading his life's story as I always wondered what became of him after he left St. Rita. May he rest in peace.

Sandy, so sad to hear about Tom's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Tom at Continental Bank and later at the Home Loan Bank. We golfed occasionally and he will be missed. My best to you and his family.
