John Hagerty Obituary

John Robert Hagerty, a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away due to complications from cancer on October 16, 2023. He was 80 years old. John was surrounded by his wife Elise of 58 years, and loving children, John, Dan, and Kristen. He left a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will forever endure. Predeceased by his mother Margaret, father George, and brother Edward, John exemplified respect and gratitude. His care and consideration for his parents were evident to all. John graduated from Villanova University in 1964 and The Wharton School of Business in 1966. John served in the Navy from 1966 to 1968 as an Information Technology Officer. After Naval Service, John joined IBM, where he stayed until he retired in 1991. Married on November 20, 1965, John and Elise built a bond that withstood the test of time, demonstrating that love is eternal. They traveled the world, but most truly enjoyed their Kent Island home, where they watched thousands of beautiful sunsets together. John was an accomplished Civil War historian and outstanding chef. He spent countless hours coaching his own kids and many others, and instilled in them values of integrity, kindness, and the importance of family. The role of grandfather and great-grandfather brought immense joy to John. He was grandfather to Samantha, Holly, Emily, John, Ryan, Jayden, Megan, Brad, Angel, and Stephanie, and six great grandchildren. His warmth and affection created lasting memories that will be cherished by generations to come. We will miss you Dad! On December 16th at 10:00 AM, a mass will be held at St. Christopher's Church in Chester, MD. Following the service, a celebration of John's life will be held at the Kent Island Fire Department at 11:30 AM until 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Compass Regional Hospice Care or Tunnels to Towers in his honor.
