Phyllis Noble Obituary
Phyllis Heater Noble, 92, passed away at York Hospital on Monday, October 23, 2023. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Thomas Noble, her son Charles Heater III, his wife Sharon Heater, and her granddaughter, Shelby Heater. She was predeceased by her father Herbert Metheny and her mother Loretta Conely Bailey. As well as her granddaughter, Bailey Renee Heater.
Phyllis was born in Weston WV and was raised primarily by her maternal grandmother, Lizzie Conely. She was always an excellent student and a hard worker. She graduated from Weston High with honors and enrolled in West Virginia University. While attending college she got a job with the US Department of Health, working under Jonas Salk, traveling over a three state area collecting specimens from Polio victims, thus helping the creation of the polio vaccine. Upon graduation, she started her teaching career as an english grammar teacher, she then taught social studies, world history, US history and for the last several years taught Latin. While teaching Latin, she founded a student/ teacher exchange program with a high school in Montepulciano, Italy in which students and teachers visited one another's respective homes and schools learning the similarities and differences of each other's cultures all the while making lifelong friends. After retirement and the start of school for her beloved granddaughter, she continued her love of teaching by volunteering for the Spring Grove School District as a teaching aid.
After her retirement and before the birth of her granddaughter she traveled extensively in the US and other countries with her friends and family. When her second granddaughter was born in 2002 she uprooted her life in Cockeysville, MD and moved to Spring Grove, PA to be closer to her new grandchild. She was and has been instrumental in the upbringing and academic success of her granddaughter, Shelby, who is attending West Virginia University because of her grandmother's influence.
After retirement she also enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. She will always live in our hearts with wonderful memories.
Her greatest pleasure in life was helping others better themselves. Truely a selfless person with a heart of gold that will be fondly remembered and loved by many.
Services will be private at the family's convenience. The John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc. is assisting.
