Gerald Hofkin Obituary

Gerald Alan Hofkin, M.D., of Owings Mills, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at the age of 87. He is survived by his children, Leah Hofkin, Dr. Stephen (Sabrina) Hofkin, and Karen Hofkin (Kenny Green) and his grandchildren, Holden, Colby, and Aurora Hofkin. Jerry was predeceased by his loving companion Lynda Stotsky and his parents, Sarah (nee Chertkof) and Samuel Hofkin. A loving father and grandfather, Jerry considered Lynda's family to be his own and is survived by her daughter Eden (Adam) Himelfarb and her grandson, Jack Himelfarb.

Jerry was devoted to his family, his patients and the practice of medicine, and the Jewish community. Raised in Baltimore, he was a graduate of Baltimore City College, Johns Hopkins University (JHU), and the University of Maryland School of Medicine. After serving three years in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Major, Jerry returned to Baltimore in 1969 with his young family to begin his private practice. He enjoyed a long and successful career as a physician specializing in gastroenterology. With a lifelong love of learning, Jerry earned an MBA from the JHU School of Business during semi-retirement. He also was an avid amateur radio operator and a train enthusiast, having been a volunteer for several years at the B&O Railroad Museum.

Services at Hebrew Young Men's Cemetery, 5830 Windsor Mill Road, Gwynn Oak, MD 21207 on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 1:30pm. Please omit flowers. Contributions in his memory may be directed to the B&O Railroad Museum, borail.org or 901 West Pratt Street, Baltimore, MD 21223; Camps Airy & Louise, airylouise.org or 5750 Park Heights Avenue, suite 306, Baltimore, MD 21215; or an organization of your choice. The family will be in mourning at 3133 Hatton Road, Pikesville, MD 21208 on Sunday, October 29 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. with a service at 4:30 p.m.
