Connie Martin Obituary

Connie Lee Martin (Peterson) passed away on February 19, 2025, at the age of 71. Connie was born to Leonard and June Peterson on January 21, 1954, in Menominee, Michigan. Connie attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and began her career in racquetball and athletic club programming in 1975. Her career accomplishments were vast with highlights including founder and executive director of AMPRO (formerly known as PARI - Professional Association of Racquetball Instructors); publisher of numerous books on racquetball programming; player on the Women's Pro Tour; member of the US Racquetball Team in 1987 winning 2 golds and 1 silver at the World Championships; and inductee of the USA Racquetball Hall of Fame in 2006. After her retirement from Cascade Athletic Club in Gresham, Oregon, Connie helped run the US Open Pickleball Championships for nine years in Naples, Florida. Connie was full of life, wit, and kindness. She loved golf, playing pickleball, swimming, and winning at card games. In her last year of life, Connie's greatest joy was spending time with her granddaughter Avery June. She is survived by her husband, Bob Jones; son Brandon Martin; daughter Kasey Lau, son­ in-law Andy Lau, granddaughter Avery June Lau; and her siblings Darlene Suthers, Cathy Peterson, Cynthia Peterson, and Jay Peterson. Connie also leaves an endless list of supportive, loving, and funny friends, including the Fireball Ladies and The Screwballs. Connie will be sorely missed and forever remembered as one-of-a-kind. Because she celebrated life, no formal funeral service is being planned. Instead, she will be honored with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
