I was a student of Mrs Irvings from 1989 - 1993. Mrs Irving was a very special teacher. Her passion for her language, culture and country shone though so powerfully in her teaching and made studying Japanese with her a full and enriching experience. I have very fond memories of her classroom and of the times she invited our class to her house for some delicious Japanese food and... sometimes ... Sake! With her support and encouragement I went on an exchange trip to Japan which I really enjoyed. Mrs Irving had a wonderful sense of humour and made learning Japanese a real pleasure. Domo arigatou gozaimasu.
I am sorry to hear of her passing. I send my heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and colleagues at this very difficult time for them.
Warmest Regards Kirsten McNamara
