Tom (Thomas David):
It is with sadness we announce the passing of our much loved and loving Tom / Dad / Poppa. Tom passed away peacefully in Waikato Hospital on Sunday 3 April, exactly one month short of his 85th birthday. We, his family were present with him, surrounding him with our love. Tom, we are so proud of you, and thankful for the life that we shared together. A kind, and caring Christian gentleman who was loved and respected by us and many others. Our sincere thanks to all the staff in Ward OPR4 who cared so professionally and kindly for him and us during his short stay in hospital, to Dr Chris Nihotte and staff at Glenview Medical Centre and to our wider family and friends for their support. Sandra, Caroline, Mark and Lisa and his three precious grandchildren Jack, Simeon and Amelie. Due to Covid restrictions an invitation only service to celebrate Tom's life will be held on Monday 11th April at 11am. This will be live streamed. Dear Jewkes whanau,
Belatedly I offer my condolences to you all at the sad passing of your beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend.
My connection goes right back to my first ministry in Hamilton in the 1980s but was strengthened later when Tom was studying at the University (of Waikato) and I was the Ecumenical Chaplain. He would occasionally drop in at the Chapel to say hello. I always enjoyed our chats. He was a thoughtful and enquiring student and a wonderfully warm and engaging personality with a lovely smile. He was a lovely and loving caring gentleman, a true disciple of our lord Jesus Christ.
I remember Tom with affection and know he will be sadly missed by so many.
I will think of you all when you gather to honour and farewell dear Tom later this morning.
May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

We are so sorry for your loss of a true gentleman. I can still see him walking our great grandson Nikolai, holding his hand and chatting to him. That was so touching and kind. Our love to you all.

Our deepest sympathy to you all. Tom was a teacher of mine back in the 70s. although he was a hard man he was also fair and a great teacher, he would always push me to get the best out of me and I learnt many lessons in life from him. God Bless you as you navigate life without him.
