On behalf of the Herbert Family from Benneydale I offer our condolences and loving memories.

Mr Lind taught my mother and all of my Aunties and Uncles and also myself and my many cousins.

I attended Camp at Whakamaru and was privileged to have been taught Religious Instruction by Mr Lind in school at Benneydale for all of my Primary years.

Mr Lind was a wonderful kind hearted man who shared his love of Jesus with us all. Many beautiful memories.

With Love...to his family and to him. Rest in Love Mr Lind. Thank you for everything you did and the time that you spent with all of us over the years.

Uncle Tom, I was thinking about you today, how what a wonderful man you were and how you gave your time and love so unconditionally to the children of Mangakino. I guessed you had passed away by now, but hoped you had not. I wil never forget you, my thanks for everything you did for us all.

David Hesketh.

I extend my most sincere sympathy and thoughts to Mavis, and the children of she and Tom at this very sad time.
Also, I have sincere thoughts to offer all of "Uncle Tom's" family and friends, and I wish that the Lord will help each and everyone of you through this time of grief.

Take peace, and be proud in the knowledge that Tom spent a lifetime following his calling and either openly, or carefully in the shadows, he relentlessly took his ministry to the people that mattered. We all know that his focus has been on "the children" "the youth" and the "new generations". Many of those people, in his lifetime grew to be adults, and of course Tom was always there to minister their needs too.

I have no knowledge of any other single person who has done as much, as I believe Tom with Mavis, has done to bring not simply God's Word to the people, but an opportunity to learn from both Jesus' and Tom's teachings.
To learn everlasting principles of good, honesty, love or respect for friends, neighbours, communities and those around you.
To believe in people, even if not necessarily in The Lord. Tom's efforts did not require that a person had Christian belief. He required nothing of those to whom he spoke, or ministered.
I believe that Tom's work in the community of a small region, over so many years, has been of positive input and made change to the lives of thousands of young folk. Young folk who then grew, went out into the world, and positively influenced the lives of thousands more.

Inside a formal Church, or not, inside a true belief in God or not, these people who have come into contact with Tom, and whose lives and principles have been changed are the future of our communities and country.
Tom leaves a Amazing Legacy, from "The Island" and "Uncle Tom's Cabin", to the amazing network of Christian support that grew around it.
I well remember as a young boy - "a son of Mangakino", sitting on the living room floor in Rangatira Drive, and learning the teachings of Jesus Christ, along with how they could be used for benefit of others in our modern world. Thank You!

Beyond this busy life, in their ministry, Tom and Mavis also become strong stalwarts for the history and future of Mangakino!
Mighty work! (Thinking of the last Town Day of Jubilee, 2008? A celebration and reunion that Judy and I attended! Thanking Tom and Mavis for the organisational effort that made that happen.)

Family, friends, people who loved Tom and Mavis, and people who are so much better within themselves without even meeting Tom... My sincere thoughts, and those of my wife Judy, are with you all at this moment.

Sincerely,

Bill Gibson-Patmore

I'll be thinking of Uncle Tom, Auntie Mavis and all of you today. Mum (Ruth Masters) shared with me her memories of her brother's life, how dedicated and faithful he was on his pathway and the light he shared with and brought to so many. I will always remember him as a strong, vibrant man who was devotedly passionate about the things he loved. The times our family all got together on the island will forever be a treasured memory. To the beautiful family he created, we send you our love and deepest sympathies. Vicki, Darryn, Corey, Billy & Jesse.

I'm saddened to hear of Tom's passing, and that I won't be able to attend his celebration service. I'll never forget Mr Lind coming to teach us Bible in Schools, or helping me with my correspondence Bible studies, and even inviting me to attend LWCYC for a camp (which I ended up attending over 20 times as both a camper and a leader). Mr Lind holds a very special place in my life and as part of my spiritual journey. Much love to Mavis and the family.
