Stewart OLIVER Obituary

I worked with Stewart. He was my colleague at work in Rototuna. I grew up in Dollar, Scotland. It´s a small village in the Ochil Hills. I learned after meeting Stewart in New Zealand that he use to work a few miles away from there. We used to chat vividly and fondly about our wonderings around there in between seeing patients. He was as near to kin, that I had since moving to NZ. It is strange how fate brings people to together, in ways that, one cannot fully understand. However, we are better for it. He was the best of people one gets to meet in this life. I still think if him to this day. I always ask myself when I am not sure about how to proceed. "What would Stewart do ?", and I always find my answer- as steady as she comes. Life is full of meetings of strangers on an intermingling path. The strangers meet at different sections. When you meet in the valley, and if you are lucky enough, you struggle together and climb steady out until you get near the summit. Your paths may take you elsewhere. You don´t get to choose when that is. All you have is those moments in life. Until fate brings you together either in this one or the next. Miss you so much man ...2024

Hi there Stewart

Fortunately Stewart, we have all the eternities to hang out together. I´ll be joining you shortly, as my health is not the best these days, but I´m looking forward to catching up with you again and other precious loved ones.

What a wonderful truth it is to know that life continues on well beyond the veil, and throughout all the vast eternities .

I miss you my wonderful friend.

Stewartie I lost track of you somewhere around 25 years ago - it was not until I was planning to visit New Zealand that I thought to see where you might be living / working. Could not believe you were gone so young.

On holiday in Orkney and spent today in Stromness (where Stewart had been a GP before moving to NZ). Just wrote a postcard to send to Stewart and Helen. Googled his surgery address and shocked and utterly saddened to read of Stewart's death. We have so many happy memories of him at university and with him and Helen. I can't believe he has passed away. Stewart was a great friend and a good decent man who loved his family. Our thoughts are with them. Am so upset to hear of his death. We are very sad to hear of Dr Oliver's passing. He was a rock to our family and was so natural with our daughters. We will miss him greatly.

I have just this evening read of Stewart's passing and I'm shocked and saddened. Stewart was a wonderful man and an amazing doctor. Always so caring and thoughtful. My deepest sympathy to his wife and children. A huge loss for many.

As like all the messages prior, I too have only just heard about Dr Stewart Oliver's passing. Our thoughts go out to his family, whom he talked so fondly about. I will certainly miss your wonderful sense of humor, and your way you took all my worries away with your beautiful way of explaining medical terms. God bless

Am so shocked to hear of his passing, the one doctor that i felt comfortable talking to, and he shared stories of love about his family. He also had just begun to talk to my son as an adult and help him understand manly things. He will be sadly missed by us as our doctor and I can't imagine the loss his family feel. We shared so many laughs and stories that at times I almost forgot what my appointment was for.

What a shock to hear of the passing of a much loved Doctor..... he always had a smile, a little personal word of encouragement.... even getting down on his knees to talk to our 'special needs foster child' .... nothing was too much trouble.

Stewart was the best doctor this family has ever had, we used to actually look forward to going!! He had such a caring manner, made you feel totally at ease, and we loved his humour and the way he explained things. He will be so sadly missed. Thoughts and prayers are with his family now. Devastated to learn of Stewart's passing. He was extremely good to us, helping Phil through some difficult times. He became not only our doctor but considered a friend always very caring, we will miss his lovely smile and Scottish accent. When seeing Stewart as a doctor I often used to forget what I went in for, our conversations were often so interesting and humorous and it was actually a pleasure going to the doctor. He would always jibe with the kids and have a laugh making them come out of their shells and ending up with a smile on their face. I am deeply saddened and shocked by Stewarts passing and will miss him dearly. My heart goes out to the family, you were always in his stories. Taken way too soon will never forget you Stuart.

I only met Dr Oliver at the end of last year when my Mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He showed her such compassion, treated her with utter respect and found common ground through their Scottish backgrounds. Thank you Dr Oliver for all you did for Mum and the rest of our family at such a tough time. May you rest in peace.
