Sir Grant HAMMOND Obituary
Sir Grant (Robert):
Former President of the New Zealand Law Commission and senior New Zealand Judge has died, aged 75. Sir Grant was the beloved son of the late Geoffrey and Adeline. Brother of Shona, Iris and Janny. Loving husband of Lady Nanette Moreau. Father of Christopher and Josephine Hammond, and Catherine and Caroline Moreau-Hammond. Grandfather of Stephanie, Freya and Peter. Uncle to his many nieces and nephews, and a wonderful friend to many. A service will be held for Sir Grant in Auckland at 12.00pm on Friday, 7 June, at the church of the Holy Sepulchre, 2 Burleigh Street, Grafton.

If I knew I would have been there. I had a working relationship with Justice Hammond when he arrived in the High Court in Hamilton. this is sad news. my condolences to all family. Wayne Revell

Annette and your family
We are saddened to hear of Grants' passing and disappointed not to be able to attend his funeral in Auckland today. Nevertheless, both Sue and I will be thinking of you all at this sad time, but we rejoice also in having the pleasure of knowing him. His influence on your lives and those of many others was profound and they are memories that you will always treasure. From his humble beginnings in Te Awamutu to the corridors of power he remained inherently humble underneath it all. May you all continue in life inspired by your individual memories of Sir Grant.

How sad and shocked we are that Grant has died, for Nanette and his family and for his sake being so young and alive to the world as he was. John Wood, my late husband and myself and our daughter Charlotte Beauchamp Wood were lucky enough to meet with dear Nanette and Grant and revel in discussions various, and so to benefit from Grant's outstanding qualities, his great good humour and wit, his clarity of vision and thought, his principled, ethical approach to any issue, and the eminently persuasive solutions that would issue from his analysis of these. A very fine jurist striving to live in the real world and make it as good as it can be or better. And a very gracious, honest, kind man. We want to convey our sadness and sincere condolences to Nanette and all his family.

May I extend my sincere sympathy and thoughts to all family, friends, and colleagues of Sir Grant.
I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been taught some elements of law by a man with a wonderful and practical legal-mind... A man who never forgot, overlooked, or left the realities of a life in which he grew up....
I and many of my colleagues are saddened by the passing of Sir Grant.
