I joined the staff at Pukekohe Intermediate as Deputy Principal in what turned out to be Roger's last year at the School. On a trip up to meet him I learned he had been DP for my brother-in-law, Bernie Hennessy, at Cambridge and knew my sister well. Roger Nanette and I travelled to Hawkes Bay for Bernie's retirement function from Bledisloe School. During 1988 Roger and I worked closely together and I found him to be an amazing educator. He was well loved by his staff and the affection of them and respect was there for all to see, He was extremely perceptive and was able to pick up when any of his staff were feeling poorly. His ability to lead was top notch and his advice was always good to hear. I continued to discuss many issues with him after he left and after I was appointed as Principal of Pukekohe Intermediate. After i retired and moved to Australia I kept in touch and will deeply miss the advice I received over the years from this amazing man. Go in peace Roger you have left your mark on many educators and pupils and you will be sorely missed. Haere, haere, haere, kua hinga te totara i te wao nui a tane. Noho rangimarie.

I had the pleasure of working with Roger at Otahuhu Primary School. He was an absolutely great leader with excellent interpersonal skills. He cared for the children and the teachers. We learnt so much under his guidance. We really enjoyed his beautiful voice when he sang to us. He made sure he had good personal relationships with all his teachers. An honorable man and a credit to the teaching profession.

Sending my sympathy to the family. Roger was my teacher at Meeanee School. He treated every child kindly and he certainly had a passion for developing the needs of the multi levelled class. He and Nannette attended all the jubilees and were always interested in how his past pupils were doing as well as the community. You have earned a well deserved rest. Many thanks for your contribution to education.

Sending condolences to Roger´s family in your sad loss.
Mr Goldstone came to Kiwitea School in 1961 and taught our family, Kathryn, Richard and Jillian Brown. In May 2022 he visited Kiwitea on his road trip and Richard and I enjoyed being able to catch up with him. Prior to that it was in 2009 when Roger and Nanette attended the 125th School Jubilee.
Kind Regards

I had the great honour of teaching at Pukekohe Intermediate under Roger´s guidance. Roger was our father figure, a true leader in every sense of the word. Our school family lost someone very special when he left - the glue that kept us all together and made us into the school that the Pukekohe community held in such high regard. Rest easy my friend.

The Probus Association of Auckland pays tribute to Roger Goldstone who contributed advice and support to our organisation and Auckland Probus clubs over many years. Roger certainly lived by Abraham Lincoln´s quote: "It´s not the years in your life that count. It´s the life in your years."

Saddened to hear of Rogers passing. A giant in the education field, he was a respectful, caring Principal who simply wanted the best for every student. It was an honour and a pleasure to work under your guidance Roger. Lex Short, Pukekohe Intermediate.
