Quentin SMART Obituary

SMART,
Quentin Victor (Q, Quent):
The mighty Q has fallen.
Quentin passed away suddenly after a long illness at Wellington Hospital, on Friday, February 1, 2019, aged 53, surrounded by family and friends. Wonderful, patient and much loved husband of Michelle (nee Hopkins). Amazing, loving and proud Dad of Elijah and Maia and friend of Harley. Loved youngest son of the late Max and Colleen. Much loved brother and brother-in-law of Graeme and Sophie, Robyn Dulcie and Brett and Susan. Favourite son-in-law of Ross and Leonie. Loved uncle of Gwen, Nola, Paul, Antonia, Nicola and James. Honorary great-uncle of Roy. Loved cousin and nephew of the Davies clan. Respected and admired friend, colleague and mentor of many. Many thanks to the staff of Ward 5 North, the Haematology and Palliative Care teams for all their care and support of Quentin in his time there. Donations in lieu of flowers to Leukaemia and Blood Cancer NZ would be appreciated. A funeral service will be held in St Barnabas Church, 106 Mana Esplanade, Mana, on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 11.00am, followed by interment at Makara Natural Cemetery, Wellington.

To Quentin's family I am saddened to hear of his passing. I knew him all through my years at Waitara High School and could see that the gangly youth with the big smile would become a great man. He was bright, intelligent and had a wry sense of humour. My thoughts are with you all.Caroline Briggs (nee Carr)

No words can ever express a great loss such as Q. He will be looking down on all of us whom he Invited into his life with such humbleness. He was a tower of strength for so many and a leader for those who needed guidance, a friend who would be there for you and a man of so many words spoken with such genuine love and grace.
Safe travels Quentin, much love and light to your family..

So sorry to learn of Quentin's passing. Known him since I was 8 years old. Former neighbour, high school mate and friend. His intelligence and sharp mind meant that there was always something to talk about.
Farewell.

The world is a lesser place without Q. I enjoyed working with Quentin tremendously - always measured and wise but with a sparkle of humour thrown in for good measure.
Being new to Gen-i and the world of big business, Q was a well considered foil and coach to my hot-headed approach. It was obvious why he was so well respected and liked - and why 'Molly' always wanted Quentin on "today's top priority deal A-Team" Q was 'good people' and I just wish I'd convinced him to join our team at Microsoft. He made a real difference to me and many others - and that's all we can really aspire to do in our time here. My thoughts are with you.

Condolences to the family on your significant loss. In all the years since meeting Quentin, his approacability and willingness to spend time and share his considerable technical knowledge with me has never been forgotten. It was a pleasure to have known him and sad he is no longer with us.
Rest in peace Quentin.

Q! I cannot believe I am writing this!! I thank you for being an amazing role model - living a life of humility, respect and most of all laughter! I will cherish everything you embodied - strength, love for what you do and your family and most of all your genuine kindness. A courageous battle fought Q & I feel so blessed to have known you! Until we meet again Q xo
