Petra KING Obituary

KING, Dr Petra Denise:

Born Timaru, died peacefully in Havelock North in the arms of her beloved family and friends in May 2022. She will be remembered as a great friend, parent and grandparent, who was smart, cheeky, articulate, with a great sense of humour, and who formed long lasting relationships with all who crossed her path. She was a respected member of staff at EIT and contributed to ground breaking research in the NZ wine growing industry, she was also a talented quilter and a passionate contributor to the NZ Parkinson's Society. She was brave, met every challenge head on, and always handled herself with dignity and grace, even in difficult times. She is missed greatly every day. A celebration of her life will be on 24th September 2022, for details, please email [email protected]">[email protected]">[email protected]">[email protected]

Kia Ora friends and family of Petra,
I only just received the news that Petra passed on in May 2022. Sending my belated condolences to Amanda, her whanau and friends.

Petra entered my life as my landlord in Pukekohe in 1991. I was on my first OE. "PD" quickly became my friend, mentor and soulmate. We had lots in common and did many outings together. Classical music performances & RNZB, walking the Heaphy track & the Queen Charlotte, Ellerslie Flower show, cooking together, meeting up in The Netherlands and hours of talking horticultural research; wine and flowers (the beauty in life).

I am for ever grateful for the guidance, teachings and fun we had together. "PD" enriched and touched my life positively. I know there are many others who will have had the same experience. A beautiful soul is now at peace. I will think of you (as always) on 14 January. Arohanui, Maria

I was very saddened to hear of Petra´s passing and send my sympathy to you all.
I enjoyed many happy quilting hours with her and also enjoyed organising the show of
her quilts in Bramley with friends from Jjs quilters.
I am in UK at the moment but will be back for service in Sept.
Rest well Petra.
Larraine Field.
