Ian became our family GP soon after his arrival in New Zealand.
Back then we called him Uncle Ian and he seemed to enjoy visiting us on Kihikihi Rd.
For me (11/12 years old) two of his stand-out acquisitions at the time were a red convertible sports car and a serious archery set.
He performed my younger brother's appendectomy after going around the loop of having me admitted to Waikato Hospital with suspected appendicitis, discharged with some vague alternative diagnosis, my getting the same symptoms a few weeks later, and he personally delivering me to a private hospital in Hamilton for an appendectomy.
Fond memories.

I remember the 1970's and our holidays in Russell. I am sure such a great man will truely be missed.
