Noel PAYNTER Obituary

Passed away peacefully on 7 April 2026, in his 90th year. Much loved husband of Anita, and dearly loved father and father-in-law of Catherine and Bruce; Helen and Tim; Joanne and Peter. Cherished grandfather of 9 and great-grandfather of 8 (almost 9). Noel was immensely proud of his daughters and the lives they built, and he took great joy in their families. He devoted his life to his family and New Zealand's hydro-electric power industry, both on the Waikato River and at Lake Waikaremoana (the best years). A service to celebrate Noel's life, will be held at Legacy Papamoa, 53 Te Okuroa Drive, Papamoa, on Monday 13 April, at 11.00am. Livestream may be viewed and Tributes for Noel's family may be left at www.legacyfunerals.co.nz/s/paynter Communications to the Noel Paynter Family, C/- Legacy Funerals, PO Box 3136, Tauranga 3142.

Rest in peace Uncle Noel

We will always remember the memories and moments shared with you, especially the way you would always call to check in and wish us well.

Although it´s now time to say goodbye, there is comfort in knowing you are now reunited with your brother Bryan, my Pop who I´m sure was waiting for you as soon as you got up there !

Forever remembered, always missed, and never forgotten

Thinking of you Aunty Anita, Jo, Catherine, Helen and the rest of the family x

A privilege to have known Noel. A clever, wise and generous guy. Made a huge contribution to Mangakino and surrounds.
My deepest sympathy to Joanne, Anita and all the family
Prayers and thoughts with you all

They say "the lighthouse-keeper´s world is round -
The only lighthouse keeper that I know
Inhabits space, his feet well clear of ground.
I say he is of light, of midnight snow.

The other lighthouse keeper - he they say
Whose world is round - is held responsible
For manning his one light by night; by day,
For polishing his lenses, bulb and bell.
My man, my friend who lately leaves, is quite
Another type. He climbs no spiral stairs:
But go he does, for good, to man the night;
To reappear, among his polished stars.
