To Mick's family,
May you all stay strong and support one another through this sad time. The passing of a mighty man who has been an inspiration for many.

A long time ago, in the small town of Levin, this man named Mick gave an unemployed young man an opportunity to change his life. An opportunity to give stability to the young man's family.

He gave me a job, he took a punt, and employed me as a real estate agent. Taking me from jeans and t-shirt to a suit and tie. Mick believed in me and in conjunction with Stuart Pescini, guided me in the right direction. A successful long career and a challenging occupation.

I will always remember my first day when Mick placed his hand on my shoulder and he said, "Get out there and do it". On my desk was a sheet of paper with those very same words. Glued to the paper was a dollar coin. He said, "This was my only free dollar and the rest is up to you".

To this day, that sheet of paper with the words and the coin are still on my office wall. A gentle reminder of the man who was prepared to help and give support, if you were prepared to get on with things.

Mick - May you soar high and may your family be the wind beneath your wings.

So very sorry to hear about this mighty Totora leaving this world. I had huge respect and admiration for this giant man. Gruff exterior sometimes but an abosolute softy inside. Much love you Mick. May your family cherish their many happy memories of Mick. Catherine Swinn
