I was very saddened to hear of Grant´s passing, and I wanted to send you my sincere condolences.
He and I go back a long way - all the way to school in the 1950s. We also started our working lives at much the same time, both in banking, he at BNZ and I later at ANZ. Although we lost touch for a while when he was spirited away to Browns Bay and Tokoroa, and I went off to join NZCDC in Hamilton. By then Grant was heaving involved in the lifestyle blocks at Matangi and then Tamahere., so it was a great surprise when our paths crossed again in the 1980s when he joined NZCDC and project managed the build of Anchor House.
After I moved on from NZCDC our paths again crossed again at AFFCO, where he and Bill did an exemplary job in disposing of redundant properties that were sitting idle and costing money to maintain.
It was always a pleasure to work alongside him. After we both left AFFCO in 1990, life took us in different directions, but I always admired the way he built a new life around his forest and lifestyle property in Whangamata
He was a good man - steady, thoughtful, and deeply committed to whatever he took on. I have many fond memories of the times we worked together and the conversations we shared over the years.
Please accept my deepest sympathy. I hope you can find some comfort in knowing how much he was respected and appreciated by those who had the privilege of working with him and knowing him over such a long period.
