My conversations with Matthew were fleeting yet frequent, and always warm. Passing chats between crew are fun and completely unserious, but I'm realising now how special it was to chat with Matthew, who was deeply introspective and his words were often delivered through a shy smile. I loved to listen to him talk about his love of banana bread (whether for its taste or because he couldn't bake anything else I dont know - the interrogation was ongoing), and reading self help books, and how he was feeling settling in with the crew. I will treasure his memory, and wish him well across the veil.
Until we meet again my friend.
I expect a fresh batch of banana bread

Matthew you were a wonderful young man. Meeting you for the first time, you were very reserved and quiet, but as time went by you slowly warmed up to having a hearty conversation with me. You were a great worker and will be sorely missed by your workmates and the crew. Many blessings to you and your whanau! "Blessed are those that mourn: for they shall be comforted" Matthew 5:4

Arriving at Hamilton Airport on our Air NZ ATR from WLG. I noticed a new loader. He was young and keen to get in and do the mahi. I asked, what´s your name. He said Matthew. I asked him if he preferred to be called Matt or Matthew. He was a matter of fact saying "Mathew". I always looked forward to seeing him and saying Hi Matthew only to see a slight smile as his name was used. As we never had too long before closing the door and departing again, I hadn´t had a chance to really chat to him. But I had noticed the smiles stop and I didn´t see him again. We never know what others are dealing with so remember to smile and be kind. RIP young lad. From Lynette Itani Flight Attendant at WLG base Air NZ.

My sincerest condolences to the family of Matthew .
I knew him through his work as a loader in Hamilton.
My last conversation with him was to compliment him on his work ethic. He was efficient , friendly and hardworking .
I'm terribly sad to know he has passed .
Matthew was a good guy.
Much love to you,
Shelley Richardson

Sending love and hugs to Debie and Kayne and extended family as you all navigate through these challenging times. May the service be of some comfort to you all and a chance to share your special stories of Matthew. We only met a couple of times, but I was impressed by his friendly nature; especially to people he only just met. We both would have liked to have been there in person to offer more tangible support. We think of you all daily. Love from Ron and Kristine (Gisborne).
