Rayleen and David, a Cambridge friend rang me last night to share with me this heartbreaking news. I have spent the coming hours thinking about Matthew and your family.
I have many memories of he and I playing after school together. Face painting, dancing, swimming, running barefoot in paddocks, and games on the trampoline.
He was fun, fearless, wild and wilful. He taught me how to ride a bike over a cattle grid with determination and speed, and when we met over the years as adults - both in NZ & in London, he was just the same.
He was a beautiful child and a beautiful man, a real credit to you both.
I am so sorry to learn of his passing. I will be keeping you in my thoughts. I hope the coming days, weeks and months are kind to you all. With love Simone

To Rayleen and David, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this heart breaking time. There are no words to make this easier, I just wanted you to know I am devastated for you all at the loss of your beautiful son. Mathew was a beautiful child when I know him, kind, creative, mischievous and full of life and fun. May you find comfort in the company of people who loved him in the memories you have of him. Warmest condolences Grace Dove
