Mario was part of a wonderful group of Italians who immigrated to New Zealand to start a new life ... I am privileged to have the photo below of that group. He was the last living person from that photo. I have a lot of great childhood memories of knowing him.

I have many wonderful childhood memories of when Mario lived with us on the family farm in the Waikato and as a 10 year old, confess to an absolute fascination with his mororbike. Later when we moved to the city, Mario had by then met and married Doreen and they would visit Mum and Dad (Elda and Alan) most Friday nights, and always on the bike. Although in later years I had moved away, Mario remained a lifelong treasured friend of the family. The world has lost a true gentleman

Mario was a dearly loved member of the Italian Community in Hamilton for many decades, and enjoyed coming to the lunches and picnics over the many years. He especially enjoyed sampling the Italian dishes on offer and joining in singing the well known Italian songs with his friends and musicians.
Many enjoyed the fruits of his great gardening skills, and many plants live on around the Waikato thanks to his generosity.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him for his great sense of humour, his zest for life, love of all things Italian including watching cycling racing and recounting his young days in his beloved mountains in Italy.

Riposa in Pace Mario.

The most loved neighbor and friend over 40 years. The delishish soup and cheese for lunch and the endless help supplying power and helping make concrete as we built our house. Even putting a gate in the fence so I did not have to climb over.
A life well lived.
Ciao
