L. Sharpless Obituary

SANDY RIDGE - L. Scott Sharpless, 58, of Sandy Ridge, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025 at Hershey Medical Center.

Born March 13, 1967 in Philipsburg, he was the youngest son of the late Rhelda (Tormey) Hummel and Sheldon Sharpless of Sandy Ridge.

He had a strong Christian Faith, and was raised in the former Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Osceola Mills.

Scott was a 1985 graduate of Philipsburg-Osceola High School and attained a Bachelor's Degree from Penn State University in 1989. He later attended the American Gunsmithing Institute and was the owner and operator of Sharpless Shooting and Gunsmithing.

He was the Program Director and long term DJ at WPHB Radio Station in Philipsburg, where he developed a love of country and western music.

Scott had a career at the Clearfield Walmart, spanning several decades in the Asset Protection Department. In 2020, he retired after 25 years of service as a Deputy Game Warden with the PA Game Commission.

He was a Hunter's Education Instructor, a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, North American Hunting Club, and a lifelong member of the NRA. He loved cookies, Milo's tea, western shows, crazy socks, and any song by Merle Haggard.

On Sept. 12, 1992 he married Jennifer (Whitehead) Sharpless. Together they created a beautiful life and raised two beautiful girls.

Surviving is his wife of 33 years, Jennifer; daughters, Hannah Nicole Sharpless of Sandy Ridge, and Lara Beth (Nathaniel) Quick of Hawk Run; sister, Sharon Glasgow of Alexandria, Va.; brother Timothy (Deana) Sharpless of Sandy Ridge; nieces, Emily (Martin) Roney, and Kristie Sharpless; and nephew, Ryan Glasgow. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Betsy Whitehead; dogs, Gryffindor and Princess Chloe; and cat, Olivander, all of Sandy Ridge.

Preceding him in death are his mother Rhelda Hummel, his maternal and paternal grandparents, and father-in-law Lee Whitehead.

A private service for family will be held at a later date.
