John TURNER Obituary
Dr John Christopher:
Passed away on Thursday, 3 March 2022, at Waikato Hospital. Aged 93 years old. Loved husband of the late Barbara. Loving step-father of Neil and Jeremy Orton and father of Roseanna Soden, Louise Rogers and Harry Turner. Loved and respected Grandpa of Valerie, Samuel, Beverley, Christopher, Jennifer, Michelle, Peter, Blair, Nicola, and John and Great-Grandpa of Leah, Oscar, Hugo, Audrey, Yvonne, Liam, Tessa, Cove, Adrian and Oliver. A farewell gathering for John will be held on Friday, 11th March, in the Lady Goodfellow Chapel, The University of Waikato, Gate 1, off Knighton Road, Hamilton at 1.00pm, followed by a private family burial. Farewell my old friend. Your enthusiasm for mathematics and music were inspirational. You developed life-long interests in classical guitar by myself and many others through your passionate commitment to the instrument and its music. A national community arose through your guidance and this is a great part of your legacy.

Very sad to hear of John's passing. He was a wonderful man, such a gentleman and so supportive of young people. I will remember him fondly as a strong influence on me and my career.

Many magical musical moments together with John playing guitar, or piano or recorder or cello - amazing that he found the time to learn so many instruments.

So very sad to hear that John has passed. He was a true polymath and a wonderful human being. Spending time with John was always a treasure.

My sincere condolences to the extended Turner family. I have fond memories of John, both as a student and then as a colleague, during my time at the University of Waikato.
