Farewell my old friend. Your enthusiasm for mathematics and music were inspirational. You developed life-long interests in classical guitar by myself and many others through your passionate commitment to the instrument and its music. A national community arose through your guidance and this is a great part of your legacy.

Very sad to hear of John's passing. He was a wonderful man, such a gentleman and so supportive of young people. I will remember him fondly as a strong influence on me and my career.

Many magical musical moments together with John playing guitar, or piano or recorder or cello - amazing that he found the time to learn so many instruments.
A very kind and caring man.
The Hamilton Classical Guitar Society is heartbroken to hear of John's death.

My sincere condolences to the extended Turner family. I have fond memories of John, both as a student and then as a colleague, during my time at the University of Waikato.
