GHENT, John Charles Dalzell (Johnny):
2 July 1939 –
15 December 2020
Dearly beloved and cherished husband of the late Betty for 57 years. Adored and loved father of Katrina (Kate) and Rebecca (Bex), and respected father-in-law of Paul Third and Steve Johnson. Treasured grandfather of Nick, Caleb and Jayden. Loved "big cousin" of the Morris clan and a much loved brother-in-law and uncle to all his nieces and nephews. Over 40 years involvement with karate and was a much admired and respected karateka. Sensei John was made a Life Member of Okinawan GoJu-RYU Karate-Do Federation and achieved his Shodan (black belt) in three styles Kyokushin, Goju-Ryu and Goju-Kai. He represented New Zealand in world karate tournaments in the 1980s/1990s.
Hana wa sakuragi, hito wa bushi - among blossoms the cherry blossom, among men the Samurai.
Following Johnny's wishes a private cremation has taken place and the family will have two celebrations of Johnny's life mid-January in Cambridge and in Wellington (TBA). Messages for the family can be sent to 1 Norglen Lane, Riverhead, Auckland 0820.

Arohanui to you all on the loss of a much loved and admired family member. I never met John but, from what I have read about him, I know that I would have liked him a lot.My thoughts are with you.
