Jean and Peter lived next-door to my grandparents, Pat and Charles (Vestey) Thomas in Lake Crescent for many years. As my grandmother was not able to walk because of arthritis she was very confined to the home.
Personalities like Jean create impressions, and I do have childhood memories of how much joy Jean would bring into the room and the fun atmosphere created, when she would 'pop over' for a visit.
Every morning, there was a race as to who would finish the newspaper crossword first, interrupted with a collaborative phone call, conceding defeat!
It was also reassuring to know there was someone else keeping an 'eye' out because although Nana had an alarm, she never used it!.
Jean's deep voice would lead the room in laughter, as she would kindly tease my grandfather and provide insight into what was happening in the world beyond '64'
People would visit my grandparents, but my impression was that Jean was someone who (Nana particularly) counted as a friend.
The Thomas family (living in Perth, West Australia) send you all our thoughts as your mourn the passing of a great lady

So sorry to hear of Jean's passing. I knew Jean as a small child when they first moved to Cambridge and our two families used to holiday together. Jean was also my bridesmaid and the godmother of my son Graeme - and she was such a lovely caring person and will be sadly missed.

So very sad to read of Jean's passing. Mike and I lived next door to Mary and her mother in Cambridge and shared many happy times with them. We also knew Jean and I taught Marc at Hillcrest Normal school. Please accept my heartfelt sorrow at your loss. Judy Lowe
